Scottish Drugs Forum upcoming training dates (November update)

There are places available for a number of upcoming SDF training courses taking place across Scotland, which are free to access for people working within services in Scotland.

The courses are extremely relevant to the current addiction landscape in Scotland as they address Blood-Borne Viruses (BBVs), trauma and substance use, and understanding stigma.

If you work in Glasgow, there are free to access courses on drug and alcohol awareness running on various dates from the 7th of November, click here for more information.

Blood-Borne Viruses

This training aims to increase workers’ understanding and knowledge of key issues related to blood borne viruses (BBVs) with a particular emphasis on risks associated with drug use and sexual and reproductive health.  The main focus will be on Hepatitis C and HIV and will also include information on Hepatitis B.

Introduction to trauma and working with people who use substances

This training will introduce the theory of trauma and will enable participants to identify and implement practical strategies to appropriately support service users who may experience trauma.

This training will allow support workers, project workers and other staff to become trauma-informed within their practice.

‘Understanding Stigma’ – Promoting inclusive attitudes and practise

Stigma can have a profound impact upon the lives of people who use alcohol and other drugs or those who have a history of substance use. The impact of stigma can permeate numerous aspects of a person’s life such as their health and wellbeing, relationships, education and employment prospects and socioeconomic status.

This one day training will give participants a distinct set of knowledge and skills to help them understand and address alcohol and drug-related stigma.
