New report on the Scottish perspective of workforce development published

A new report has been published by two members of Scottish Drugs Forum’s Workforce Development Programme (WDP), Lauren Johnston and George Burton, in the Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy journal.

The report, entitled ‘What’s this thing called workforce development? A Scottish perspective’, discusses the history of workforce development and provides a number of samples of the WDP’s work in Scotland. The paper also discusses the challenges for workforce development within the alcohol and other drugs field in Scotland before concluding by discussing future plans for workforce development in the country.

With the development and implementation of a National Workforce Development Statement in 2010 for the alcohol and other drugs workforce in Scotland, workforce development has become a growing interest for related professionals and sectors over the past 6 years.

The WDP at Scottish Drugs Forum receives core funding from the Scottish Government Drugs Policy Unit and has a remit to provide workforce development support for the alcohol and other drugs workforce, equipping them to adequately respond to and support those affected by problematic substance use at both a national and local level.
